Activities

Project activities designed to achieve the objectives include:

  1. Assessing needs of ANCORA enrolees.

Needs of the ANCORA enrolees will be elicited using: survey data mandated by the Ministry of Health plus the SF36; and group interviews of health care providers, clients and community leaders. A panel of ANCORA staff, primary care researchers, and methodologists will reach a consensus on markers of ‘high risk families’ and will search for and select appropriate measures.

  2. Monitoring of phone system use

Using a structured reporting form, we will monitor the current receptionist calls in terms of volume, type, and time frame over a period of 10 months.

  3. Adaptation of Evidence-Based Resources for Health Care Workers and the Community.

A panel of primary care staff, community members, community leaders such as elementary school teachers, and plain language educators will advise on the adaptation of evidence-based self-care and decision support materials for families developed in Spanish by Healthwise. We will pilot test the family resources with 20 clients.

For the health care workers decision support resources based on Healthwise, family care physicians will first review them to determine relevance to Chilean health problems and the health system. Then clinical nurses and faculty will adapt the language to Chile.

  4. Development of training programs.

We will develop and test training modules and evaluations strategies for health care workers and community volunteers as follows. The healthwise call center training manual will be translated and adapted for Chile. A training program for health professionals will be developed and evaluation measures adapted from a current Canadian initiative. Clinical nurses, nursing faculty, and fellowship trainees will develop a ‘train the trainer’ program in the use of family manuals for community volunteers and teachers. Questionnaires used to evaluate other programs will be adapted for this project

  5. Data Linkage with the Electronic Health Records.

Researchers will work with members of the Information Technology Professionals supporting ANCORA electronic records to design call center recording tools linked to patients’ electronic records.
